@SleepyCatten Addendum for Scotland (it hadn’t occurred to me that NHS England’s ‘Right to Choose’ system would also cover GICs)
Here in Scotland, we have four NHS GICs and one private one
The Glasgow GIC now accepts self-referrals from adults and under-18s anywhere in Scotland, so I suppose trans people do now have some choice
The adult waiting time for a first appointment is around 4–5 years; for under-18s, it’s a little less

The other three NHS GICs (Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen) only accept geographically limited referrals of adults by their GPs
Their waiting times for first appointments are 1.5–3 years

None of these, sadly, have waiting times anywhere near the mythical 18-week maximum
