Devolver Digital partners with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity on Games for the Weans

The video games publisher is sponsoring the charity’s gaming service, helping to raise funds for children and young people in hospital.

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is delighted to be partnering once more with Devolver Digital

The video games publisher has generously donated £4,000 to Games for the Weans and is sponsoring the charity gaming campaign for the next two years. It follows overwhelming support from the gaming industry for the service, which helps to tackle isolation and support the mental health of young patients being treated in the hospital.

Sarah Seaby, Director of Marketing at Devolver Digital, told SGN:

We believe games can be small acts of magic. Supporting Games for the Weans means helping children find adventure, laughter and company – even on the hardest days. If we can help give them space to play, explore and just be kids, that matters to us.”

Kirsten Watson, CEO of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, added:

We’re incredibly grateful that Devolver Digital have partnered with the charity and are supporting the fantastic work that our Gamer-in-Residence does within the hospital. Support like this has a huge impact on the lives of the children and young people treated at the Royal Hospital for Children.

With support from Devolver Digital and the US-based charity Child’s Play, Games for the Weans has raised over £200,000 for young patients since its founding in 2023. The GCHC campaign supports the gaming programme in Scotland’s busiest children’s hospital, raising funds for updated equipment, new games for patients, and the hospital’s Gamer-in-Residence – the first of its kind in a UK children’s hospital – who ensures every child in hospital has a Player Two.

GCHC is looking for people to get involved with Games for the Weans in 2026, including creators, gamers, developers, and publishers. The funds raised will help young patients in Glasgow, play games during their stay on the wards.

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity Launches First Ever ‘Weans Summer Game Jam’

The Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is calling on game developers across Scotland and beyond to get creative for a wonderful cause with the launch of its first-ever Weans Summer Game Jam. This new summer-long competition challenges entrants to create a brand new videogame, which will be celebrated at a special showcase event in Glasgow this September.

The jam is being run by the charity’s ‘Games For The Weans’ programme, which provides invaluable support to children and young people by supplying games, consoles, and opportunities to play with someone while they are in hospital. The competition aims to channel the immense creativity of the games community into a positive and fun event that directly supports the charity’s work.

Running from July 1st to August 31st, 2025, the game jam is open to everyone worldwide, from professional developers and seasoned hobbyists to students just starting their journey. Both solo creators and teams are welcome to participate.

The theme for this inaugural jam is “What matters to me,” offering a powerful and open-ended creative brief for developers to explore.

All entries that meet the submission criteria will be featured in an online gallery, and participants will be invited to display their creations at a physical showcase event in Glasgow in September 2025 (exact date to be confirmed). This will be a fantastic opportunity for developers to present their work to the community and celebrate the creativity of the jam. Further details on prizes and the judging panel will be revealed by the organisers soon.

This is a brilliant opportunity for the Scottish games community to use its skills to make a real difference and support a vital local charity. While entry is free, all participants and supporters are encouraged to donate to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity through the official fundraising page linked on the jam’s website.

To learn more, sign up for the challenge, and get ready to start creating, visit the official Weans Summer Game Jam page on Itch.io, or join the Game Jam’s official Discord channel.

Let’s get developing and support this incredible cause!
