Report just now from #FionaCarrickMLA who was at the Pocock event tonight at Parly House: Dr Mohammed Mustafa talking about the horrific conditions in Gaza. A thousand ppl were there (it booked out fast, I missed out), hardly any MPs though, with notable exceptions being David Smith and Alicia Payne from the ACT, and of course Ed Husic, who has said all the right things today. 👏 #AusPol
Local photographer Graham Gall's pics of Woden, framed and ready for #FionaCarrickMLA's ACT Assembly office. I bought them a couple of years ago and have just had them framed, so they'll go to FC on long term loan. On the left is David Jensz's sculpture in front of what is now Woden's gastropub, 'The Alby' (a nice bit of urban decay!). And on the right: John Anderson's fabulous Callum Offices in Woden. Perfect addition to the oil paintings of local scenes already in the office. #Murrumbidgee
A fun morning spent at the ACT Legislative Assembly, watching the action in the chamber but also catching up with #FionaCarrickMLA's office staff, finding out what they do and what Fiona has already achieved. One of the voluntary staff is an old friend from our campaign who has recently retired from the federal public service, so her admin skills are being put to good use. I'm going back next week to witness the Annual Reports process, which is open to the public and where Fiona will shine. 👏
Zoom meeting lasting 2 hours finally finished. After a day of a thousand things, I didn't need it. Anyhoo, I hear #FionaCarrickMLA is doing great things so I'm off tomorrow to the Assembly to see her in action (first sitting week of 2025) and pop up to the office to meet the staff. Democracy in action... ain't it great?
#FionaCarrickMLA's maiden speech in the ACT Assembly this morning. I'm frocking up! 💃🎉🥳
Dinner out tonight with the #FionaCarrickMLA volunteers to celebrate our win. Unfortunately it's at Canberra's most popular (Fijian) Indian joint. Not the most adventurous menu, but nice enough (if you like the generic gravy method!) and lovely people. If only places like Rasam in Civic were as popular: authentic, exciting, regional and vegetarian. Ho humm.... Ken Behrens eh? 😬
