The fact that the authors assume this will be beneficial is just another "#FalsehoodProgrammersBelieve": there is no good reason to hide the truth from other people. Squint a little and we're back to McNealy's "Privacy is dead, get over it." Or Schmidt's "If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place."
