"In a world increasingly automated by #algorithms, the use of #autonomousweapons—machines capable of making life-or-death decisions without human input—is a growing concern. These systems violate fundamental #ethicalprinciples: they do not comprehend the value of human life and reduce their targets to mere data points. Once activated, they operate independently, identifying and striking targets based solely on sensor input, without any human review or authorization.

In 2023, the late Pope Francis warned of the risks these systems pose to human dignity, asserting that they can never be morally responsible. For him, decisions over life and death must be grounded in #HumanEthicalJudgment—not algorithms."

Ethical Web Principles

The web should be a platform that helps people and provides a positive social benefit. As we continue to evolve the web platform, we must therefore consider the consequences of our work. The following document sets out ethical principles that will drive W3C's continuing work in this direction.

The increase in #AI in the #publicsector requires #ethicalprinciples to ensure #digitalhumanrights. That's why Amsterdam set up an AI #Procurement clause.

@Joinup_eu published an interview to tell you more about it. Read/listen it here 👉 https://europa.eu/!8gKp9d
