If you're interested in getting an Elephant Bike, the refurbished Pashley Mailstars formerly used by Royal Mail posties for deliveries, then time is running out: they only have seven left and there won't be any more after that.

Looking into options for storing the hefty #ElephantBike in our rather small house. According to this article I'll need to get it blessed by a priest or something.

Frustrated at the thought of having to put my new Elephant Bike in storage until we find a bigger place to live, so I've been considering the feasibility of keeping it in the downstairs tool/storage room. This would involve carrying the bike down the narrow and slightly twisty outside steps to the cellar door. It may well be easier to do that with an actual elephant… Still, faint heart never collapsed panting on the stairs under 50lbs of unwieldy steel.

A clarification: The forum posts I linked to are not written by me. It’s simply something I found when researching how much shopping an #ElephantBike can carry and thought others might enjoy reading. Apologies for any confusion.
From 2019 here’s a short account I found of a brave soul pedalling an ex-Royal Mail post bike over some notoriously hilly terrain: “Riding an Elephant (Bike) Over the Pennines”

As you can see in this handy photograph I pinched from a dusty corner of the Internet, people with an #ElephantBike seem to be fond of testing their cargo capacity.

The plan is for the #ElephantBike to be my local transport and utility vehicle, something I can use to carry the shopping and maybe—hills notwithstanding—get out on a few leisure rides. Very slow leisure rides 😁
The #ElephantBike in the room. Straight out of the (huge) box, so the handlebars are rotated for transport and the pedals are not attached. Also not shown is the front basket rack and plastic tray. The second pic shows how these bikes started life as workhorses for the Royal Mail before being refurbished: despite weighing over 50lbs without cargo they were loaded with rear panniers and a post bag at the front, propelled through all weathers with only a 3-speed Sturmey-Archer hub!

So, um… the new bike has arrived.

As you can see, Madeline Kahn thought she’d entered cat heaven when she saw the size of the box.
