@OSCrane The incomparable E. E. "Doc" Smith spent a number of pages on alien food. As in "What on this table of alien food chemistry, mostly copper sulphate, what can we eat?" I forget exactly which books, but several IIRR. Some fish from a copper sulphate sea were apparently OK. Richard Seaton could detect wholesome food by tasting. Comes back as I think about it!
