狐ヴィクシーSomething that always makes me feel depressed and disparaged on #fediverse is the amount of times I've seen highly visible accounts act like #alttext enforcers, even making it their policy to not boost a post that lacks it. Heck I think I even recall someone mentioning a fediverse starter pack which blacklists people who don't use alt text.
There are people who have legitimate difficulty in articulating what they see in an image into words, due to English being a second language or disability. For some people, the point is to communicate with images because they can't express what they have to say in words. There are also people with physical disabilities which can make typing harder or tiring.
By excluding us you are practicing #ableism, disparaging and making the fediverse hostile and unwelcoming to people who already have difficulties in our participation and you are silencing our voices just because there are a few people who can't hear our image posts.
And the worst part is you all say it's to accommodate people with disabilities.
