This poster was presented at CoRDI 2025 and corresponds to the abstract "Digital preservation and archiving in the NFDI - Between established standards, missing awareness and approaches to open questions" (10.5281/zenodo.16735966). The poster introduces digital preservation (sometimes also called long-term archiving), its relevance, activites of the NFDI working group Long-Term Access and Preservation (LTA), including results from the survey regarding digital preservation in NFDI consortia, and future activities. The survey revealed that only 23 % of NFDI consortia offer content preservation (with 35 % missing answers). The working group submitted a digital preservation and archiving consultation service for funding and intends to continue working on current topics (e. g. digital preservation in DMPs, software preservation, clear responsibilities and documentation of preservation status).
While working with the game files of Masters of the Elements, I found omething exciting hidden in one of the script files: Multiple, undocumented cheat and debug codes.
Well, they were undocumented up until now, so without further ado, but a hefty spoiler warning, let’s see how we can bend the laws of time, train bats, or get infinitely lucky.

Really wild how difficult it is to bag things. My options:
1. Python Bagit lib.
Pro: Straightforward.
Con: Can't use bagger profiles or add metadata fields in a specific order
2. Bagger.
Pros: Profiles! Can edit existing bags!
Cons: Horrible Win95-esque UI, loses timestamps when bagging unless bagging in place, bagging in place scrambles field order & sometimes dies halfway through
3. Dart.
Pros: Profiles! Lovely GUI!
Cons: Can't edit existing bags, no support for tag files
