#Disque du jour, bonjour !

#Polyphème - Le Rêve de Polyphème (Pagans, 2024)

https://polypheme.bandcamp.com/album/le-r-ve-de-polyph-me

Un disque sublime autour du #gamelan, et de la #darbuka, un truc d'une douceur incroyable pour des #percussions. Bref, gros kiff sur ce disque que je recommande plus que chaudement.

Dear caucasians; just because you own a #darbuka doesn't mean you can bring it to an #acoustic #session and play it loudly and out of time over everything, including the quietest of songs...
Oh come on, #random country website! Today it's #music from #Tunisia 🇹🇳, while yesterday we had its neighbour Libya. OK then! one of Tunisia's biggest genres is Malouf, but I've shared that the first time we did Libya, so let's go into new genres.
This is دارت الايام(Daret Layyem; "and the days passed") by Nawather; a band formed in Tunis in 2013. The #genre could best be described as #Arabic #folk #metal or #Oriental #symphonic metal, since it incorporates #bass, electric #guitar/s, and #DrumKit, but also Arabic #instrument/s such as #darbuka, #nay, #qanun and #strings in a rather tasteful #fusion of styles. The lead #female #vocal is nicely #melodic while the metal vocals, which we only get briefly, add an edge, but aren't over the top. FYI this was the first time I've heard metal vocals using Arabic. Their overall lyrical themes seem to be #hope, #freedom, #resistence, and struggle.
