A Bomb Cyclone is another name given to Extratropical or Midlatitude Cyclones, though only if it undergoes Explosive Cyclonegenesis; they can be just as powerful as their Tropical Counterparts but can occur any time of the year in both hemispheres but typically occuring during the colder months due to greater temperature gradients between the Tropics and Polar regions.
Bomb Cyclones if move into warm waters >21-24ºC they can become Hybrid Tropical/Baroclinic Cyclones (aka Subtropical Cyclones, or Subtropical Storms), and if the water is greater than 26.5ºC it might become full Tropical Cyclone (aka Tropical Storms, Hurricanes, Typhoons)
