We are concluding January / #Jamuary with the 31st track of this playlist. 31 tracks in 31 days, with pretty much the whole month driven by TV episode titles &/or #math subjects of the show Numb3rs (except for Crib, of course). It is thus fitting to do this last track tied to math, & to a classic tool to learn math as a kid, the Speak & Math. Tying back to show, this track is titled "Speak and Numb3rs".

In 1963, Bell Labs released a record called “Computer Speech,” showcasing early speech synthesis. Created under D.H. VanLenten, this was a major step in speech technology. Bell Labs, founded in 1925, contributed to various tech innovations. In 1961, John Larry Kelly, Jr. and Louis Gerstman created a “vocoder” using an IBM 704, famously synthesizing the song “Daisy Bell.” Science fiction writer, Arthur C. Clarke, inspired by this, featured a similar scene in "2001: A Space Odyssey." The “Computer Speech” record utilized formant synthesis, modeling the human vocal tract to produce speech. Instructions were input via punched cards into the IBM 704. The groundbreaking record demonstrated the potential of computer-generated speech, paving the way for today's voice technologies.
