The classic comic book font style is product of early comics technical limitations, all caps compensated hard to read text due to blotchy ink and cheap paper, is explained in this video showing Artie Simek‘ sixties lettering with some notes by letterer John Roshell and Richard Starkings from Comicraft. I still remember when Meanwhile was Marvel’s default font for every Avengers series.
Comicraft fonts are rad! But most of my recent comic book lettering is done with Blambot’s Collect ‘em All, also love to work with Out of Line, Ready for Anything and Spinner Rack.
