@jadehopepunk Yes! And, there are also lots of other ways to contribute spare time & energy to help set up at the new Catalyst location.

For example, there is an opportunity this Sunday (April 12), for future and current participants to contribute to "some formative discussions for the new phase of the center at this critical time in its story" .

Running from 12-3pm, this event will include opportunities to share your experiences and ideas for the Catalyst Social Centre, hear about the history and organising structure of the project, and learn more about the various ways you can get involved as an individual or collective.

For context, Catalyst is organised by a federation structure made up of delegates from volunteer run member collectives that take responsibility for maintaining the space for broader community use.

For other ways to contribute, see https://catalystcentre.net/newspace/

New space | Catalyst Social Centre

Founded a Black arts collective and have been feeling very challenged by trying to organize with folks who have been steeped in corporate culture and have employee mindset. The main challenge is to get people to take full responsibility for the tasks they volunteered to do. Created this sheet to help educate and reprogram. I don’t want to bombard ppl with theory, so I thought this was a super simple and accessible way to start. Feel free to share. #CollectiveOrganizing #CollectiveOrganising #ArtCollectives

Out this afternoon on https://miaaw.net the ninth episode of ‘Ways of Listening’!

Socially engaged artist and PhD researcher Alex Parry explores workshop practices in depth. Alex’s bio describes her long-term interest in ‘how things form communities’. She has a history of working in public spaces, creating events and objects that encourage collective experiences.

In a conversation with Hannah Kemp-Welch Alex describes her overlapping interests in collective organising with artistic practices, and how this led to a formative project, intervening in the structure of the seminar to disrupt the usual power dynamics. Alex questions - how do we respond to non-participation? Could there be richness in refusal?

Together with Hannah, Alex discusses the tensions between the requirement or desire to plan a workshop, and creating space to really listen and respond to the room.

This is the kind of listening that weekends are for…
