"The #Sydney Harbour Bridge will be lit up with a #menorah in tribute to the 15 victims of the #Bondi #terrorattack, as council makes a last minute change to the #NewYearsEve tribute.

The initial plan for the tribute, made in consultation with the #JewishBoardofDeputies, was to light up the bridge with the image of a dove and the word “peace."

That changed on Monday after more than 30 #Jewish-#Australian #creatives wrote a letter to #LordMayor #CloverMoore urging her to project a “Jewish-specific symbol” onto the bridge."

@franksting In fairness, Cover Moore's big dream is to basically bulldoze the whole block between Sydney Town Hall and Gadigal Station, for a new city square:

"Town Hall Square will be the next stage in the transformation of Central Sydney.

"With plenty of trees and seats it will be a place to sit on a weekday lunch break, home to large scale events and gatherings like festivals, markets and celebrations, and a meeting spot as well-known as the Sydney Town Hall steps.

"Framed by Pitt, George and Park streets, the future square is key to the City of Sydney’s long-term vision of a city centre with plenty of space for people to walk, cycle and gather.

"The area between St Andrew’s Cathedral and Sydney Town Hall is also is set for a $35 million upgrade with new paving, furniture and lighting."
