Say hi to the Tasman Island cave cricket (Tasmanoplectron isolatum), a rare species found off the coast of Tasmania. Individuals live amongst boulders + in bird burrows. It's the only cave cricket in the Southern Hemisphere on the IUCN Red List (!) and little is known of its ecology. 🦗 #entomology #WildOz #CaveCrickets

I get asked a lot about what #CaveCrickets eat given they're scavengers in (at first glance) barren #caves. When in a bind they can eat basically anything: other insects, their own legs, bacteria. You can see why some wander outside: gourmet mushrooms! #entomology #rhaphidophoridae
