A quick scroll through international marketplaces often reveals a challenging environment for original equipment manufacturers: an abundance of listings that closely mimic the designs of dedicated carry brands.
In the images attached, you can see products that bear a striking resemblance to popular models from Able Carry, Bellroy, Cotopaxi, Osprey, and Alpaka. While the product silhouettes may look nearly identical to the originals in these photos, the reality of the final product is often quite different.
In my view, these "budget-friendly" alternatives often bypass the years of research, development, and material sourcing that original makers invest in.
When opting for a generic copy over the original, consumers risk losing out on:
🔹 Material Integrity: High-performance fabrics and hardware are costly; heavily discounted alternatives typically utilize different materials to hit their price targets.
🔹 Consistency: Established brands usually offer robust warranties and quality control that generic marketplaces cannot always guarantee.
🔹 Future Innovation: Revenue from original products funds the R&D for the next generation of gear.
If you find a design that speaks to you, I encourage you to support the original creators. By voting with our dollars, we foster a vibrant, competitive marketplace that rewards creativity and ensures companies can afford to keep innovating.
Let’s support the people pushing the boundaries of design.
