I've been watching #EatTheInvaders on ABC, and tonight, watched the episode about camels. Known for a long time they're a feral pest species, but meat has mostly been wasted or exported.
I've eaten camel only once, as a pre-prepared burger patty that was overly salty and not very appealing.
Out of curiosity, in light of my apparent iron issues, I looked it up and camel seems to be marginally higher in iron than beef. But interesting, wild venison is almost double that of beef!
I try to eat more sustainable and ethical meat - mainly kangaroo and wallaby at the moment. So, I think I will (re)add camel and wild venison to the menu, so long as I can get the plain meat to season/flavour myself. I'm lucky to live in inner suburbs, with good access to markets with a range of sustainable "unusual" meat sources, as well as online ordering.
Anyone have any #recipes for #VenisonMeat or #CamelMeat they'd recommend? #ISO
