“Occupations & Properties” blog relates the story of the 12-year-old EKO, a social center in the Madrid barrio of Carabanchel, now targeted for eviction by vulture capitalists. The EKO is home to a myriad of popular creative activities and groups. It is rooted in a radical tradition that goes back to the Franco era when Carabanchel had the largest political prison in the country. The post charts some of the artistic currents that run through the “okupa” movement in Madrid.
