A Guide to Saving on Bitcoin’s High Transaction Fees

"If you’re not sure if you are setting the fee high enough (but don’t want to overpay), and if your wallet offers this option, make your fee 'replaceable' by selecting 'Replace-By-Fee (RBF).' This will allow you to bump up the amount of the bitcoin fee [later, if necessary]."

A Guide to Saving on Bitcoin's High Transaction Fees - CoinDesk

There are ways to cut down on high bitcoin transaction fees if you're patient enough and know some of the right tools to use.

@mk

If you are using a #Bitcoin  #wallet that supports #ReplaceByFee (#RBF), and have it enabled before creating your send #transaction, you can feel comfortable going on the lower-end of the #tx #fee range. If the tx doesn't confirm soon enough for you, simply #BumpTheFee using RBF.

There's also the #FeeBumping method known as #ChildPaysForParent (#CPFP),. CPFP can also be done if you are the #trx recipient.

@cryptocoin

Unlike the mempool backlog of 2017/2018, today we have #Bitcoin   wallets with support for the "fee bumping" methods #RBF (replace-by-fee) & #CPFP.

If you are using a wallet that supports RBF, and have it enabled before creating your send transaction, you can feel comfortable going on the lower-end of the transaction fee range.

If the transaction doesn't confirm soon enough for you, you simply bump the fee using RBF.

Bitcoin Mempool Stays Cool as Payment Numbers Pass 2017 Record

Record payment numbers fail to dent Bitcoin's performance in 2021, while the Ether mempool hits all-time highs.

@yukiame #coinomi say they're working on implementing Child-Pays-For-Parent #CPFP and First-Seen-Safe Replace-By-Fee #FSFRBF.

I think the latter would not require setting the Opt-In Replace-By-Fee bit in advance, as it retains the original outputs.

So depending on when the next crisis hits and how quickly they can develop these things, maybe it will be less of an issue next time.

But I guess for the future I've also learned that it's worth checking the mempool before submitting a payment.
