This painting is inspired by aquarium-assembly tutorials, I wanted to play with the image of a transparent plane that becomes, at times, a metaphor for the glass walls we sometimes feel we experience in everyday life, and at other times a reference to the plane of the canvas itself—an interface through which we believe we see, without ever actually crossing it.

I paint about humanity: compassion, forgiveness, shadows and light. I am an ageing woman, and running through my work is a question about what a Western woman sees when she looks at herself. The external gaze is so easy to internalise, to begin defining oneself through it, to reshape and alter, to forget one's own inner knowing.

I paint about how decades of living layer themselves into a woman, how that is not a burden but wisdom. A line is not a flaw. It is a sign of a life lived. For me, ageing is not something to be ashamed of. It is a story that deserves to be seen.

Be well wherever you are, because Wisdom dwells in the Heart. 🥰✌️

For years I’ve been finding black balloons on the sidewalks—leftovers from nitrous oxide sessions.

This tiny piece of trash says a lot about our era: the taste for the disposable, the joyful–sad energy of partying, and the indifference to what happens after everything deflates.

The empty, shriveled balloon also raises questions for me as an artist: can art—as a speculative activity and financial bubble—be conceived as degrowth-oriented? From my art history and philosophy courses, one characteristic stands out: art tells its own story as a grand adventure. Renaissance, avant-gardes, the race for originality, radicality, and other intellectual auctions—its narrative seems structured by an ideology of constant surpassing.
