@Nickiquote @firstdogonthemoon We were promised a global village powered by curiosity, kindness, and cat pics.
We got an ad-fueled rage machine that spies on us…
but hey, still cat pics, so 🐈‍⬛✨

Shoutout to the tech bros who broke the internet and got rich enough to name their kids after Wi-Fi passwords. 🙃

I wrote a blog post on "Entrypoints to the Indieweb", in which I share how I integrate some wholesome indieweb-surfing into everyday life.

Entrypoints to the Indieweb

The indieweb is all the rage, especially as we saw the large social media conglomerates, that once replaced it, start to crack. But what is the indieweb? And how do you get there? All this, and more, in this blogpost (on the indieweb I guess). The indieweb - a web of good intentions The indieweb describes the web of personal blogs, homepages about special interests made with love, and handcrafted personal web presences.

Just as on Twitter, seeing insanely long threads here that'd work so much better as a blog post. One the other day was 45 parts or so! Seems a waste to write something interesting in a format that's difficult to read/share/find again later. #BringBackBlogs

Another short blog post, this time about my first Mastodon Bot @stateofRDAP and the RDAP space that it observes

The State of RDAP Mastodon Bot

At a recent hackathon event at work I looked into RDAP - the Registration Data Access Protocol. It aims to be the standard to query and present data about the owners and responsible parties of domains, IPs and ASNs (Autonomous System Numbers). This data used to be accessible only via WHOIS protocol (so much so that the data is sometimes referred to as “WHOIS data”), in plaintext via port 43. That was not great in case you needed to figure out the abuse e-mail of a domain registrar programmatically of course.

My February contribution to #BringBackBlogs:

Email plus aliases allow you to create unlimited unique email addresses by putting a + and word after your user name. It’s useful for all sorts of reasons and many people seem to not know about this feature, so I wrote about it.

Email plus aliases

Your email address has a hidden super power for blocking annoying marketers and protecting you in data breaches

#BringBackBlogs inspired me to blow some dust from mine, revealing a bunch of posts I hadn't finished or published 😅 Here's one of them. #HLS #HLSJS #VideoDev

How hls.js estimates bandwidth

This post describes how hls.js estimates bandwidth for adaptive bitrate streaming. My goal is to shine a little light on ABR configs.

I was busy writing a grant proposal in January, but here is my first contribution to #BringBackBlogs.

When I was at Stripe, I would see dates like 3/4 and have to know if the person who wrote it was in SF or Dublin to know if they meant March 4 or April 3.

There is a date format internationally recognized and endorsed by multiple industry standards bodies. It's the only one you should use with an international team. I wrote about it.

Unambiguous date & time

Communicating with a globally distributed team requires clarity. Fortunately, there is an ISO standard for date and time.

Unfortunately I didn't fulfill my #bringbackblogs pledge (3 blog posts in January) and just managed to write one on the last possible day. But I point the blame at my elbow, which I promptly broke at the beginning of January 😅 (nearly all good now)

Anyway, here it is - my recap of participating in the the #NaNoGenMo 2022:

My National Novel Generation Month 2022 Entry

In November of 2022 I took part in the National Novel Generation Month (NaNoGenMo) and had a blast! It was my first time joining this prestigious event after reading about it in the /r/procedural_generation subreddit. I was immediately captivated by its simple premise: “Spend the month of November writing code that generates a novel of 50k+ words.” What constitutes a novel is pretty broad on purpose: Two machine-learning models, one generating nonsensical poems, and the other trying to make sense of them writing in the persona of the distressed poet?

I wanted to add my #PersonalWebsite to the #BringBackBlogs thing and realized the signups are closed

I checked the page many times and forgot to do it until today lol

At least I met the requirements of a minimum of 3 posts for January. Unlike *some* blogs I checked in their directory
