Book 42 (ish) of 2024 : Witch Hat Atelier Volume 3 Art and story by Kamome Shirahama The art continues to astound and the story continues to envelope. How can one person do it all? Master Qifrey continues to be Dreamy (but with hidden brooding depths!) Also the Magic System is .. intense and so rewarding to mull over! Might not finish anything else just to have this as last book of the year (or I might immediately read volume 4..) https://dice.camp/@Faintdreams/113658655574722427 #Books2024 #Books2024FD #Books

Book 41 (ish) of 2024: Comic: Kill Your Boyfriend words - Grant Morrison. Art - Philip Bond Remembered liking this on first reading and now after a reread I'm wondering what kind of head-space I was inhabiting to like.. this. It's not aged well and apart from vibrant art it's.. it's not good. I keep reading Grant Morrison's work and I'm not sure why - there's just a strain of Misanthropy that's so sour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kill_Your_Boyfriend https://dice.camp/@Faintdreams/113629360064790466 #Books2024 #Books2024FD #Books

Kill Your Boyfriend - Wikipedia

Book 40 (ish) of 2024:

Owl House: Witches Before Wizards: Created by Dana Terrace.

Snuck in another teeny tiny book - 24 pages.

I assume Terrace wrote the book but when I tried to look it up it's only created to 'Disney' (Art and Writing) - which, No.

It's really a pictorial episode recap from the animated show Owl House, but it was delightful.

Book 39 (ish) of 2024: Fangs by Sarah Andersen A small 100 page graphic novel / comic about a Vampire dating a Werewolf. Wonderful but way too short. Sarah Anderson is more well known for being the creator of the Sarah's Scribbles comics. I really enjoyed seeing her create in a different art style. My reading has really slowed down pace the last few months. I'm finding it hard to focus and finish things.. https://dice.camp/@Faintdreams /113149864009142622 #Books2024 #Books2024FD #Books

So unless I manage to finish "The Wedding Hex "by Erin Sterling - my final count of books read for 2024 will be 39 (ish) and the final book finished will be Fangs By Sarah Anderson

I'm okay with that :)

Book 38(ish) 2024 DNF: Gourmet Detective by Peter King

Book 1 in 8 book series but, I got 9% into it and decided firmly that' it's a Do Not Finish - I'm going to pretend the other 7 books don't exist.

Originally published in 1994, Protagonist acts and sounds like an Entitled Male from the early 1970's .. yeah up to chapter three was all I could stomach. Casual misogyny every other paragraph - plus a smattering of Orientalism.

DNF.

Book 37 of 2024 Brave New World :Aldous Huxley (re-read) Every few years I re-read this & afterwards I make a note, to make a note to myself, *somewhere* to NEVER re-read this! It's very Misanthropic and such a Depressing / Existentially Nihilistic view of - everything It makes sense considering Aldous was a Eugenics supporting, LSD advocate, and fictional book society is based on Philosophies of Henry Ford .. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_New_World https://dice.camp/@Faintdreams/113045763802132075 #Books2024 #Books2024FD #Books

Book 36 of 2024
Fletch, Won - Gregory Mcdonald

8th in the ultimately 9 book series of Fletch Novels, although each book is stand alone

Was enjoying it up until the last 10 pages. It's a murder mystery novel that doesn't introduce the murderer until the last few pages, and there's no way for the reader to have figured out whodunnit themselves

Held up quite well for a book published in 1985, but I wouldn't recc it

Book 35 2024
Castle Waiting Volume II by Linda Medley

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Waiting

I've been trying to track down the final issues of the second part of castle waiting, for :: mumblity YEARS :: finally did so this week and sat down to read it in one sitting.

Glad to have finished it (suspect Volume 3 will never see publication) - but it also felt like saying goodbye to an old friend.
