Rare bonobo baby boy born at Twycross Zoo to mum Yuli. Watch first moments, tiny hands, close-ups, and Upendi’s reaction. Endangered species, closest relatives to humans, intimate footage.
Twycross Zoo in England has welcomed a rare and extraordinary arrival – a baby bonobo boy! Born to first-time mum Yuli, who arrived from Vallée des Singes in France in 2023, this little boy is already capturing hearts with tiny hands, delicate features, and the attentive care of his mother.
Did you know?
Male infants: Baby boys stay very close to their mums for several years. Mum provides protection, support, and social connections, helping boys navigate the troop and gain allies.
Female infants: Baby girls start spending more time away from their mums as they grow, building their own social bonds and independence.
Why it happens: Bonobo society is female-led. Males rely on their mother’s status for social advantage, while females develop independence sooner to strengthen alliances.
Outcome: Boys get a strong support network through their mum, and girls learn to thrive independently in the troop.
More to come and don't forget to visit Twycross Zoo for more!
