i.e. this is the market trending progressive and a corporation choosing to be #ApparentlyProgressive #BecauseMarketingSaysSo and believe that they can make more money this way. #BecauseCapitalism
Reboosting this #BecauseCapitalism thread because of the rollbacks of DEI programs in major companies like Facebook etc… Consider this a periodic reminder that such programs which make corporations #ApparentlyProgressive will only ever exist to the extent that #BecauseMarketing says they are a net positive to the corporation’s bottom line.
@apollon @StarkRG That’s true, but I generally limit my use of #BecauseCapitalism to superficially progressive actions by corporations that will choose to be #apparentlyProgressive when #MarketingSaysSo. Essentially to explain the profit motive behind marketing to marginalised communities.
Which is exactly WHY so-called “free market” conservatives (latest local example being the potato head leader of the opposition) get outraged at #ApparentlyProgressive actions by corporations: they don’t want those market segments to even EXIST, let alone exist with real market power. But whilst #becausecapitalism remains the driving force for everything corps do and whilst the ACTUAL markets in the real world are trending progressive, they’re shit out of luck.
However such an #ApparentlyProgressive corporation will still, and without a moments hesitation, donate to conservative, reactionary, politicians to gain a more favorable legislative environment that will let them keep their profits and continue evading taxes. #BecauseCapitalism

It is sometimes convenient for a major corporation to be #ApparentlyProgressive because doing so will have a positive reaction in the market, ie because doing so will sell more stuff, and make more money.

i.e. #BecauseCapitalism #BecauseMarketingSaysSo

This is your periodic reminder that #becausecapitalism NO major corporation is #actuallywoke or #actuallyprogressive.

To the extent that a corporation is #ApparentlyWoke or #ApparentlyProgressive it is 100% Because #MarketingSaysSo.
