This morning, @mbroome and I became part of a well-oiled machine that turns trees into firewood and chipper fodder... (And by "well-oiled", I mean "sweating so much you could have wrung out my undershirt and took a bath in it" - it was literally 100°F by the time we finished, and I don't even want to contemplate what the heat index must have been.) 🥵

We were volunteering at a tree-felling workday on The Archaeological Conservancy land in Hillsborough - theoretically we were going to be mostly in the shade (working in the woods, rather than finishing swamping the cleared meadow), but in practice I spent about half of our four hours there hauling brush and logs in full sun. ☀️ Thank Ghu for Skratch...

Before-and-after pics are from the first two trees I swamped - we would have bucked the second tree too, but the sawyer I was supporting ran out of chainsaw gas before he even finished limbing it. I took off the last dozen limbs with my handsaw (favorite new toy!), but there's no way in hell I was trying to cut up a trunk for firewood with a 9" handsaw, even if it is super efficient Japanese steel.

(No pics from the third and fourth tree because I was too hot - and so was my phone!)
