#AgkistrodonConanti, the #FloridaCottonmouth; #MonroeCounty, #Florida (13 March 2023). Though venomous, cottonmouths are anything but aggressive (despite popular mythology). They're deliberative, cautious, and stubborn at times, but they're very far from being aggressive!

Anything but aggressive: #AgkistrodonConanti, the #FloridaCottonmouth; #MiamiDadeCounty, #Florida (14 March 2023). In all my years of watching them, I have not once encountered an aggressive #cottonmouth. They can certainly be stubborn and defensive, but they remain one of the easiest species to photograph in Florida! They are very good communicators.
