AWIAuf Vorschlag Deutschlands und der USA wurde bei der 46. Jahrestagung der #Antarktis-Vertragsstaaten (#ATCM) in Kochi, Indien, das Gebiet der „Danger Islands“ als antarktisches Schutzgebiet ausgewiesen.
Damit werden die Inseln, die unter anderem eine wichtige Brutstätte für mehr als 750.000 Adeliepinguinpaare sind, vor negativen Einflüssen wie dem zunehmenden Tourismus geschützt.🐧 Ab sofort darf das Archipel nur noch mit einer speziellen Genehmigung betreten werden.

Die Vertragsparteien des Antarktisvertrages treffen sich jährlich, um antarktisrelevante Themen zu diskutieren, Informationen auszutauschen und Maßnahmen vorzuschlagen, die sie ihren Regierungen empfehlen.
