I'll be taking a short vacation in the Lake District between #ECEM and #AMLaP in early September. Any recommendations on where to stay and what to see?
Emily Saunders: activation of ASL signs during sentence reading for deaf readers. Really nice eye-tracking results #amlap
Highlights from #amlap day 2. Esti Blanco-Elorrieta on the bilingual brain: nice set of findings showing that lang switching is not costly. Argued strongly for single lang system in the brain. I’m still thinking about what this means for syntax. Easier to conceptualise for the word level and below.
Petrosino & Almeida: frequency effects in masked repetition priming, large-scale study. I like how seriously they take the issue of power here. Also they got decent data from time-sensitive priming experiment online. Requires 💰💰💰 though, data had to be cut because of time precision. #amlap #Amlap2023
Adèle Hénot-Mortier: gram judgments of parasitic gaps by LLMs. Works in some but not all LLMs. #amlap #Amlap2023 Interesting: the use of word-level surpirsal to mimic processing effects
Garrett Smith on a simple integrated model of eye-movement control during reading #amlap #Amlap2023
Zhenguang Cai on “Does ChatGPT resemble humans in language use?” #amlap #Amlap2023
In San Sebastian (or Donostia in Basque) for #AMLaP https://www.bcbl.eu/events/amlap/en/
On Saturday I will present our poster on Adaptive Resonance Theory learning inflection classes!
