@heliographe_studio it was also the same amount of time from the first commercially available microprocessor to the SE/30 (source: Wikipedia)

the SE/30 is actually impressive, I was expecting much less, but the Intel 4004 was way later than I realized (1971)

@artemis 🤔 I got degrees in linguistics, French and CS before figuring out I wasn't neurotypical, are you talking to me?
@avakining oh yes, explaining pulse dialing to the kids was fun; into the 90s phone companies had a surcharge for tone dialing which my dad refused to pay so we always had a rotary phone growing up.

@atpfm my son (14) caught the discussion of the Phone.app icon with me, I asked him if he knew what the thing on the icon was:

“a phone”
“have you seen one like that?”
“I think, like at the museum, but just a rectangle wouldn’t look good on the icon”

@daringfireball thanks for the heads up, I hadn’t been paying attention, in my mind it was still $18/mo, not $30 with tax, enough is enough.

Just over 23 years was a pretty good run.

@jwilker oh man, flashback, it was 4th for me, I remember Christa McAuliffe being such a big deal, we read about her for months in the Scholastic magazine. I was in the front row in the class right where they wheeled in the TV cart, when it happened the teacher just immediately walked out of the room to consult with the other teachers down the hall, they didn’t know what to do.
@jwilker I guess you did say "new", it's weird that's an ambiguous qualifier
@jwilker I guess technically I did, since my daughter turned 16 a year ago and we added a car to the fleet, and she was not getting anything fancy as a first car. It is 13 years old, older than our main cars by only 1 and 3 years, but newer than the other one by 16, so really, EVs were not really in the picture yet when these cars were made. 🥴
@robotspacer I only have experience with a FloppyEMU and SCSI2SD, which I used exclusively as a drop-in SCSI drive replacement, but I just got a BlueSCSI for when I next get another old Mac working, so I’m curious about your answers 🤔
@acsawdey thanks for the heads up, I have another concert earlier, I’ll have to see if I can swing both 🤔
