So major power outage here in #Geraldton #Australia
Supposedly a bunch of "power pole fires" .. wow.. deliberate I wonder? or just shit happened?
Anyhow, initially I was kind of upset with my solar. Power went out at 11pm last night, battery came on for ~5 mins, but the battery was only at 15% and it didnt last long. It also didnt really need to because , well it was bed time.
My solar will charge the battery anytime the amount I generate is more than the amount I need, and it will charge up to ~3kwh to the batter, and can provide a max of 5kwh to the house.
When the power is out, it will provide either from the panels, or the battery, and just to the 1 emergency circuit we elected to have. For me, that means my office, the kitched (so fridge and coffee machine) and the media room (just a happy accident). No AC though.
So this morning, power was still out, battery was at zero. I had to wait until the sun was up enough to charge the battery past 15%, and for us to be generating more than we were using. About 8am, all that happened and now, I am humming along, able to still work, with coffee and cold drinks/food. Not bad.
I just need to work out how to not drain the battery each night, and only use the batter when the power is out.
Why? Well because if i use the batter to run the whole house, say ~ 5pm when the sun is getting low. I get maybe.. an hour? of usage because the draw is 4-6kwh
if I save it for when power is out, and just run the emergency circuit, I can get 10-12 hours of usage as generally the usage is under 500w
Example of my current generation and usage right now.
