So I started building a PESOS site for my twitter archive, and I think the MVP is complete though not stress-tested for my full data set.

Originally I was going to link to the twitter API to pull in new content but now I think I'll switch to POSSE (my notes cross posted to other social) or maybe PESOS from mastodon with my twitter archive as the history for a new "notes" collection.

Anyway, here's a preview and the source code

Sia's Twitter Archive

I haven’t seen so many people so excited about a social network since the early days of Twitter.
The internet now treats Twitter as damage and routes around it.
This is going to look even sillier when Musk triggers a mass Twitter exodus

reasons mastodon's "viral dampening effect" is a good thing:

πŸ‘‰πŸ» no "main character of the day"
πŸ‘‰πŸ» no free text searching for people to get angry at (and harrass)
πŸ‘‰πŸ» doomscrolling is *actually bad for you* and not a thing we should be trying to replicate
πŸ‘‰πŸ» birdsite's virality is heavily driven by actual paid advertising and bots. You think that "Explore" tab gets its content organically? really? That's not making connections between people, it's about driving sales.

Mastodon is not, and should not be, a 1:1 replacement for Twitter. But it *can* be a new place for you to make valuable connections with other human beings. #twitter #twittermigration

Another quick PSA for the newcomers:

There is no Mastodon.

As in, there is no entity out there called Mastodon that needs to "get it together" or "make things easier."

Every server is a unique collection of hardware and software operated by a unique team of (usually) volunteer humans funded by (usually) donations.

Some days will be smoother than others. We new folks have flooded the network. Cut the volunteers some slack. Better yet, offer support.

I don't think Mastodon or the fediverse has ever received this much attention before. It's a great opportunity for people to finally see that social media can be done differently, that it can be a protocol not under control of any single company.
PSA: Don't forget to enable multi-factor authentication on your shiny new #mastodon accounts, folks.
Mastodon is Twitter for people who still won’t get over Google Reader going away and want to find other like minded folk.
Gonna try to migrate to @zachleat after a day or twoβ€”I plan to export this account data, hope it works!
