The huge throng of people you see are hanging out atop an ancient castle, Qasr al-Qahirah, that has been home to an artillery battery since 2015. During the 2011 revolution, too. Shells rained down on homes & schools from here. Seeing the people reclaim this space is the most beautiful thing I've seen since the war began. https://twitter.com/NesmahMansoor/status/1032715160002195456
This was the scene in the city of Taiz earlier this week, as people came out to celebrate Eid al-Adha. Taiz has had it worse than any other city throughout the current war. There's still a total siege, & daily civilian casualties. But #Yemen's cultural capital lives. الحمد لله. https://twitter.com/NesmahMansoor/status/1032715160002195456
What's remarkable is that this amendment seems to be picking up momentum. Six months ago we had to practically bludgeon senators to get them to sponsor something like this. But this thing has a whole slew of cosponsors already, including Feinstein and Kaine, who never do anything controversial. It seems like America finally cares about this war. I guess I can go home now.
On August 9 Saudi Arabia dropped a 500-lb precision-guided munition on a school bus full of children going on a field trip. Last weekend Sen. Chris Murphy filed an amendment to freeze all US support for Saudi Arabia unless the Sec. of Defense can prove it wasn't a war crime. Want to help #EndThisWar? Tell your senators to support the amendment now. https://www.yemenpeaceproject.org/take-action/2018/8/21/murphy-amendment

Today the YPP condemns the arrest of human rights defender Kamal Al Shawish by Houthi rebel forces in #Hudaydah. All parties must end the harassment and obstruction of NGO workers. From our partners at the outstanding Yemeni human rights org Mwatana: https://t.co/NkgrZ4kiVu #Yemen
Mwatana: Ansar Allah (Houthis) must immediately release Kamal Qishrah Al Shawish our Field Research Assistant in Al-Hudaydah | Mwatana for Human Rights

Mwatana demands knowing the fate and whereabouts of Al Shawish, and asks Ansar Allah (Houthis) to immediately and unconditionally release him. Mwatana holds Ansar Allah (Houthis) responsible for his well-being and the consequences of his detention.

If you're concerned about America's involvement in the unlawful killing of civilians in #Yemen, here's one way to take action today: help us force the Pentagon to come clean about its role in the Saudi-led bombing campaign that killed 40 schoolkids last week (and a bunch more civilians since then). Tell Congress: Demand Accountability for the US Role in Yemen’s Catastrophe

As most of our readers know, the US has been providing fuel for the Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes in Yemen since 2015--airstrikes that, according to the UN, are responsible for thousands of civilian casualties. Back in March, Senator Elizabeth Warren explicitly asked General Votel of U
