Python, swift, API stuff and the cloud by day.

BBQ on weekends

Passkeys are the first shot we’ve realistically had as an industry at replacing passwords as the default credential on the web and in apps.

I am *ecstatic* about the momentum that they have.

Recently:
1. google.com, icloud.com, and apple.com shipped support for signing in with passkeys
2. And Nintendo!
3. iOS 17 shipped first-class support for third-party passkey managers plugging their data into all flows

And in November, maybe, Firefox support? Including iCloud Keychain?! This is happening!

Please stop saying twitters troubles are about not paying the Google Cloud bill. They worked that.out earlier this week and supposedly paid. It's not that

Hiring a software engineer in their late 40s:

Pros:
* Understands your stack better than you do after glancing through the repo for five minutes.
* Will rewrite said stack 2x as fast, and half as buggy if you let them.

Cons:
* Gives zero fucks.
* Knows we're not *really* like family here.
* No, seriously, absolutely zero fucks given.

Do not cite the deep magic to me, product manager, I was there when it was written.

iCloud Keychain is end-to-end encrypted. It’s a safe place for your passwords, verification codes, and passkeys.
I really need to take the time and write a proper introduction post/toot. Then sprinkle in all the hashtags like early bird days.
Personally, I wish that the "code red" response that ChatGPT inspired at Google wasn't to launch a dozen AI products that their red teams and AI ethicists have warned them not to release, but to combat the tsunami of AI-generated SEO spam bullshit that's in the process of destroying their core product. Instead, they're blissfully launching new free tools to generate even more of it.

TootSDK is now open to the public! 🚀

TootSDK is a Swift package for creating apps that interact with Mastodon, Pleroma and other Fediverse APIs.

It handles the data model and network calls, with lovely async/await based calls.

The SDK is still young. There are plenty of API calls still to add. The foundations are strong, and TootSDK is very useful already.

Contributions and PRs are more than welcome!

Over ten years ago, I worked at an Apple Store and my job title was “Creative” but that pretty much just meant I spent all day teaching cute little old people how to use their new computers.

One day, this sweet little old man came in for a lesson (we’ll call him Bob). Bob wanted to create an email address so he could email his granddaughter.

We pulled up the page (let’s call it email.com) and Bob started to enter his info and he came to the username section and asked what he should put so I said “oh, you know, something like [email protected] but more unique because that’s probably already taken.”

In order to give him privacy, I was looking away from his screen when he finally proclaimed “I got it! I’m [email protected]!”

I was absolutely shocked, so I looked over at his screen and that’s when I realized Bob had become the proud owner of [email protected].

So when Twitter shuts down its API access in a week, migration tools like the great https://movetodon.org from @Tibor will stop working. If you want to migrate your followers do it now!
