I hear Belfast’s racist riots made the news across the world. What apparently didn’t make global news was the huge turnout for the Unite Against Racism rally on Saturday.

Obviously this doesn’t magically cancel out the racism. I just don’t want everyone thinking my city is nothing but its worst people.

FOSSE is available as a preview. FOSSE is a WordPress plugin for publishing from your site to the open social web, with ActivityPub and AT Protocol in one install, one setup wizard, and one admin surface.

That means a WordPress site can publish to places like Mastodon and Bluesky without making the site owner care which protocol owns which setting. The post starts on your site, and FOSSE handles the connection work around it.

For those of you who enjoy small acts of kindness:

A few days ago, I went to a photographer to get new ID photos after starting my transition.

His job was simply to take the official pictures and send me on my way.

After taking the passport photos, he looked at me and asked:

“Are these your first photos as a woman?”

I smiled and said, “Yes.”

He paused for a moment and said:

“That’s not acceptable. You’re not allowed to smile in passport photos. It can’t be right that you don’t smile in the first photos of your new life.”

Then he asked me to look back into the camera and smile.

He took a few more portraits, printed three large photos for me, handed them to me, and said:

“These are your first photos as a woman. Take them. Consider these a gift”

I nearly cried.

Sometimes people don’t realize how much a small gesture can mean to someone else. 💜🏳️‍⚧️
