Wrote a bit more about my adventures in getting off Spotify. Spoiler: I got sick of not having a streaming service, so I created my own out of my venerable old Mozilla-issued Thinkpad w520. Jellyfin is pretty great!

Pretty impressed with this UX, kind of a model of transparency in this day and age?
The is good too
Love this set of values from (closing keynote by Dr. Kari L Jordan, Carpentries) #pyconus

Most important discovery of #pyconus so far: sphinx-nekochan. The sphinx plugin I never knew I needed

#flaskcon gearing up at #pyconus with a great talk on automated testing with Pamela Fox. TIL about the snapshot fixture in pytest
Barn burner of a talk from Cory Doctorow at #pyconus on big tech monopolies. Big Howard Beale "I'm not going to take it anymore" energy. Hopefully will find its way online at some point

Ok polished it up and put it on the dashboard too, at least in the energy part:

https://wlach.github.io/gtha-electrification/energy/#solar-irradiance

tl;dr: subsequent solar years for me are probably going to be a lot like 2024 unless I'm missing something.

Evidence

Worked (a bit) on my Ontario solar analysis (ICYMI: https://wlach.github.io/gtha-electrification/) while on a train today.

Latest exploration is irradiance vs. production. Turns out NASA has pretty great irradiance data for the entire world, which you can freely download. Totally possible to plot that against inverter production to get a nice graph of the ratio.

Results are interesting and not what I initially expected (as a curious bystander with no real expertise in solar production).

Some Notes on Electrification and Solar in Ontario, Canada

Finally finished up an evidence dashboard of my home solar / heat pump / electrification experiment in Hamilton, Ontario. There's always more analysis that could be done / and more data to gather but I think I have some initial conclusions to share. Feedback and questions welcome!
