So Bluesky is about to require people to verify their age, which means sharing their real identity. I’ve no problem with people knowing my identity but then I’m not trying to hide from abusers. Or explore my gender. Or be a whistleblower. Or protest without getting arrested. Or or or… there are so many reasons people need anonymity.

Despite being myself online I am not keen to show Bluesky my scanned face or my bank card. So I guess I won’t be sticking around there.

I gave my advice before I left, which was “Switch to Mastodon, nobody there cares who you are, as long as you’re funny.”

Check out your neighborhood on the map of Cancer-Causing Industrial Air Pollution in the U.S.

It's no surprise that a search for #pittsburgh brings up the Clairton Coke Works. The data is for 2014 to 2018, so the Shell Cracker Plant isn't included.

Who was the last "mayor" of #Pittsburgh's #Chinatown? Lena Chen - bummed about many things, including the city's lack of dim sum - found Yuen Yee on a journey into history, and into her roots https://www.publicsource.org/pittsburgh-mayor-chinatown-asian-americans-film-last/
Uncovering Pittsburgh’s long-hidden Asian American history made me feel at home — and I learned I wasn’t alone

Artist Lena Chen is motivated by a desire to bring Pittsburgh’s lost Chinatown and AAPI heritage to light and to support cultural programming for AAPI Pittsburghers.

An extremely 2010s anecdote and philosophy about making impressions:

Back then, I and a group of friends who were into CrossFit were at a local park, getting taught and practising starter parkour rolls and kip-ups with the guidance of this one dude who habitually disregarding the laws of physics went everywhere in his barefoot toe shoes. We were having a lovely time climbing different things and flinging ourselves off a tall amphitheatre's steps.
Suddenly a young man in a neat pinstripe suit and a lilac button down shirt spotted us, got off his bicycle and said something like: "Might I show you a backflip?"
With our general baffled agreement he then proceeded to do a standing backflip, in his nice suit, bid us farewell, and biked away as we cheered and laughed.

Years and years later I still remember him fondly. Thank you for the memory, Backflip Suit Man! 😄
Be the random encounter you want to see in the world! You never know whose day you can make.
