"Being visibly out in many places, including much of the US, is a statement that we're willing to increase the risk levels for ourselves because we believe it's so important for future generations."

"Asking for Pride to be less "in your face" isn't just asking for a protest for equal rights to be buried, but a demand [that] LGBTQ+ people go back in the closet without those rights.

"In the US, for instance, Pride is in June because its roots are in the Stonewall Riots, wherein a bunch of trans, gay, lesbian, and bi people were violently assaulted by police, and fought back.

Comment I found on Fark, which I repost here in full (very slightly edited) because I think it's important:

"I think what certain Farkers miss, intentionally, is that in most countries, Pride is a protest -- a fight where people who just want to live their lives without interference from their governments or neighbors protest for that.

COCK and BULL are rival British inns, both centuries old, once known for tall tales told by their clientele.

POPPYCOCK likely descends from Dutch dialectical pappekak, from words for 'soft food' and 'dung (excrement)'. The exact original meaning is uncertain.

The French art of décalcomania to transfer premade prints to other surfaces gives us both the word DECAL, and likely also COCKAMAMIE -- originally (<1940s) an inexpensive temporary 'tattoo' made by transfering an image from paper, and soon to something cheap or tawdry, and eventually foolish, ridiculous, far-fetched, unbelieable. Poss. by assn. with cock-and-bull (story), poppycock.

There are some falsehoods inherent in this. The Senate did not exist in 1776. It didn't exist before 1789. Only three men who signed the Declaration of Independence also signed the Constitution. Only four signers of the Articles of Confederation (1777) did. Of 55 delegates to the 1777 Constitutional Convention, 3 refused to endorse, and another 13 left, some in protest. So when one speaks of "the Founders' original vision", they're speaking mealy-mouthed nonsense.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea. But when you look at who's for it, you have to wonder what their real motives are.

@EurekaKreuzwort I used to work for a phone company (back when it was "the" phone company). It depends on where and when. Logic switching was uncommon in the '70s, and only gradually replaced ESS, and only in certain places (mostly major Western metros) for a long time.
To clarify my snide remark: The peace dividend COULD have been permanent. The reason it's failing is because of GOP actions, not just bad luck or anything like that. GOP governance has ruined the nation's economic, political, social, and industrial power, as well as our vital international relations. These problems are the result of their actions and choices. The GOP is trying to fix things they broke, and they're unlikely to succeed at it because they refuse to address the core causes.

GOP dipshit whines about predictable consequences of problems GOP created.
