Exploration of variables in page scope:
https://deosjr.github.io/dynamicland/variables.html

This page is a wip but demonstrates pages declaring their own variables in their local scope that is live as long as the page is live, and how to use those in When-clauses. Demonstrates a lot about current fixpoint semantics.

I did find some very odd behaviour, see:

@dthompson could this be some kind of compiler bug in Hoot?

Anybody knows of people who decided to tweet often about a disease they got? Out of curiosity, if some people do it, what do they aim for and what did it provide?
@simon this makes language models worth an entirely different use, finally! Instead of being stuck in the "usage space" defined by the small group providing ChatGPT, which in turn meant OpenAI kept control over which doors could be opened, this turns it into a tool that anybody can use and transform in their own way

@simon
"That furious typing sound you can hear is thousands of hackers around the world starting to dig in and figure out what life is like when you can run a GPT-3 class model on your own hardware."

New game opened here, finally in a space available beyond highly funded academic groups. While it makes frightful uses easier, it actually also opens all the positive uses outside of OpenAI control!

OK, I'm calling it: Large language models are having their Stable Diffusion moment right now

Large language models are having their Stable Diffusion moment

The open release of the Stable Diffusion image generation model back in August 2022 was a key moment. I wrote how Stable Diffusion is a really big deal at the …

We'll be kicking off this month's seminar in less than half an hour. Looking forward to this!

@edbaggs will be presenting on "Direct Social Perception", exploring whether social perception is best treated with the methods of psychophyics!

Just caught up with @__nolski__'s FOSDEM'23 talk https://fosdem.org/2023/schedule/event/foss_winners_losers/. Great framing of current tech's massive market lock-in.

Would the tech sectors then be interested in Graeber and Wengrow's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dawn_of_Everything? Another story of humanity's lock-in to static hierarchies
