Got woken up at 3AM by the earthquake alert test that I knew was coming, but all the notices I got had said it would be at 10AM. I looked at the test message again and realized that someone had entered the time as 10AM UTC and now I'm wondering if that was a mistake? I mean, earthquakes do happen at 3AM, but it seems bad to run test alerts in the middle of the night.

The east coast of Jutland, Denmark, where I live, is about to be hit by truly extreme weather the next 48 hours.

Because of a rare change in wind direction, sea levels will rise up to 215 centimeters, which is expected to flood many coastal areas.

Last time was in 1913, where sea levels reached 200 centimeters above normal.

I am lucky to own a house 14 meters above sea level, but living directly on the coast is popular, and thousands will be affected.

Stay safe everyone. 🇩🇰

Light rain from the atmospheric river striking Vancouver Island is making it as far south as St. Helens and Woodland. Portland is likely to remain dry.

On Vancouver Island itself, up to 200 mm of rain is possible with rainfall warnings in effect.

Does anyone know of a #Scriptable script I could use to create an iOS Widget that pulls a web image every six hours?

I’m specifically wanting to generate a widget to display the Northeast Pacific surface weather map.

Please boost! I'm curious if anyone on the #fediverse is involved with #baer response or coordination, at any level?

Interested in listening to other folks' perspectives on mitigation and response to post fire challenges.

Since leaving Twitter, I've been trying to figure out what my journalism-y socials look like. (Threads: A sad Potemkin village where I just share articles. Bluesky: A fun, bitchy hotel cafeteria that still seems ill-suited to news.) I've been trying to use Mastodon for more hard news stuff, but I'm having a hard time getting my feed to be both active and relevant.

So I'm trying a few experiments to see if I can rejig my good. If you've got good journalism follow suggestions, send em my way.

@AkaSci It is common for earthquake sequences to progress in one direction. It means that each earthquake is triggering the following events as the stress in the rocks is modified by the redistribution of stress caused by the fault slip.
