Just saw a train heading toward Chicago from the west. I got 20ish secs of footage, capturing maybe half its length. Several trucks, but approx 15 tracked vehicles too. Ultimate destination unknown. This is not typical for this section of track.
Feels kinda weird fixin' to see Neil Young this summer with a fascist in the WH and guard troops deployed against protesters, I gotta say.
If you saw the recent Atlantic article about the One Word that describes Trump, but need to ensconce it within an analytical framework, download this and the next few lectures and enjoy. Suitable listening environments include the cockpit of your mid-80s Volvo 240, mountainous back-country trails, and dive bars. https://oyc.yale.edu/sociology/socy-151/lecture-17

A 19 year old has been given admin access to the core US treasury financial system by Elon Muskโ€™s DOGE.

He goes by the name of โ€œMr. Big Ballsโ€ online, is on Russian forums, and has tried to purchase DDoS botnets.

Elon has said sharing this information is illegal, so please do not press the boost button.

Experts question whether Edward Coristine, a DOGE staffer who has gone by โ€œBig Ballsโ€ online, would pass the background check typically required for access to sensitive US government systems.

Implications: good job security comes with static compliance obligations, compliance-oriented leadership, and ability to get boxes checked. Bad job security comes from lack of synch with leadership, esp. if they *think* they've bought true risk reduction, but CISO can't execute (due to skill deficit, lack of budget, changing threat environment, etc)
Imagine a 2x2 grid. "Compliance v. True Risk Reduction" and "Quality of Execution". The CISOs with well-executed Compliance ("we checked all the boxes the audit committee told us to, and more") don't worry. Those w/lousy compliance get fired when the org is popped. Those w/poor risk reduction (or who don't trust their numbers) worry. The ones with good risk reduction and a Board/CEO who actually believe it, don't worry. Those with good risk reduction and an unconvinced board/CEO worry

Meanwhile, the Dems already have a tax plan that is popular, and an enforcement plan that increases revenue by going after high-income tax evaders who are *breaking the law*. Who opposes these? REPUBLICANS. Campaign on that.

On this whole "taxes on tips" thing, which for some reason is now all the rage: Republicans piss and moan about the deficit so much that when Saint Ronnie and his trickle-down bullshit made it jump so bad it scared the shit out of his own party, they reflexively jacked up taxes on people making $2.13 an hour and took 40 years to realize it was stupid.
