Heads up #Mastodon users: if you're on Mastodon.Social, and you're following people on #TenForward, go look into moving to another major server.

You can find a small, organized list at...
https://JoinMastodon.org/servers

Moving is simple: make an account on the new server, link the accounts in the settings, transfer over data like follows. If you need help, just ask!

Be sure to check that the new server isn't also blocked by a server you want to follow people on. You can do that by looking up an account you are following on the new server: if the account shows up, it's not blocked.

I learnt about bird photography by following other bird photographers. I spent so much time figuring out what I liked about what they did and why I liked it. It’s never been any more than that—like I’ve never made money from any of this. Even though I did get to 18k followers on Twitter before I left in 2022. It’s just as nice over here. I don’t care about algorithms or whatever. Honestly I hardly know what they are. Just let me see the birds.

Global glacier melt: Major mass loss expected by 2100

Glaciers around the world are shrinking at an alarming rate, threatening sea-level rise, water availability, biodiversity, and ecosystem stability. A new study led by researchers from ETH Zurich and Vrije Universiteit Brussel and published in The Cryosphere provides the most comprehensive projections to date, projecting the future of over 200,000 glaciers—excluding those in Greenland and Antarctica—under the newest climate scenarios.

Writing for children takes talent, skill and sensitivity. Qualities a lot of celebrities don't have!!

I’m a children’s writer – and celebrity children’s books undervalue my craft

Celebrity children’s books are a recurring phenomenon – from Jamie Oliver and Keira Knightley to Meghan Markle and Jimmy Barnes. But writing for children is harder than it might look.

Can we stop with the silly "blow out" headlining please? If you plan a major piece of infrastructure in 2016 such as this Brisbane bendy bus of course it's going to cost more by the time it opens in 2025. This project is Brisbane LNP council based. #qldpol https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11-19/brisbane-metro-now-more-expensive-than-2016-rail-plan-qld/104616552
Brisbane Metro project blows out to $1.55 billion as rollout postponed to 2025

The Brisbane Metro buses were meant to be a cheaper alternative to a subway. However, it has now cost $1.55 billion, more than the original plan it replaced, and the bendy buses won't be on the road until sometime next year.

In mid-October, I took my ridiculous 4mm fisheye lens out to the forest.

It's honestly not bad for photographing mushrooms – uniquely enabling you to get both the mushroom and the rest of the forest in frame at the same time. And it's always fun to experiment.
