Developer, currently in a mix of fixing and feeling my way into many things.

Presently wondering what the pathways for being are on the rapidly changing Blackland Prairies.

Presences online have been more on bluesky lately (@vivekgani.bsky.social), but also on this elephantsite, the birdsite @vivekgani, and probly wherever else ya google my name.

P.S. I'm more liberal about boosting toots here due to how mastodon works, and carry less discernment around it compared the birdsite.

Next year on https://ecohana.mn.co our friends at One Earth Conservation are hosting two FREE online learning journeys:

Thankful for coming across the work of Paul Cereghino in Cascadia years ago, whose 'The Eight Season Year' helps narrate the seasonal shifts for those in northern temperate climates in species, vegetation, and human structures and social systems.

Aspiring to read the books referenced in 'Regeneration at territorial scales'...

"This ā€˜compulsion to proximity’ [...] has the effect of reinforcing the ā€˜magical, intensely personal, deeply emotional bonds that the medium had enabled them to forge among themselves’ [...]. Thus virtual travel has to be understood in relationship with extensive corporeal travel and the ways in which face-face conversation appears crucial for the development of trustful relationships within cyberspace."

I'm noticing a lot of people today talking about hashtag #climatechange today in areas such as a major city once known as Mannahotta. It's worth also thinking about urban heat effect on water vapor capacity, land-use change on water cycles, etc. Feel into the complexity that includes not just carbon but the other factors involved in our planetary boundaries.

Sitting at the same library where 11 years ago I was unemployed and self-learning cocoa and objective-c with a bit of ego trying to prototype UI.

The high technology bits have broken and changed over the years, the UI projects are long dead, and yet the bag and bottle and library environment remain aging stalwarts, and the outside environment remains similar though stressed from drought and freezes. Makes one reflect what to spend their remaining time composting and cultivating.

12 years ago, I remember roadtripping through the night to hike Big Bend with friends.

In July.

We packed and carried gallons of water, had to setup a rainfly to rest for lunch since there were no trees around, and barely managed a day of hiking out in the sun. But we did it, and had stories to remember.

Seems essentially impossible to do such a thing the past couple summers.

(arguably no different than imported produce but still caught my eye)
