so uh
we rescued a set of 4K movie film scanners

does anyone need a set of 4K movie film scanners

if you have a need for a cinema film scanner (or can give it a good home!), and can arrange to have it transported from the Seattle area, message me on fedi or e-mail me at [email protected]

I'm trying out RAG Assistant for Zotero https://github.com/aahepburn/RAG-Assistant-for-Zotero - it looks like a good RAG demo for academics, and it works with Ollama-hosted llms as well as online ones. Created a new Zotero profile with 121 items for a fast demo. It will do RAG across the PDFs in the Zotero collection. Not sure why it sees 3116 library items; maybe I messed up the profile somehow. It'll take some time to finish indexing. #LLM

I am reading: DjVu and its connection to Deep Learning https://scottlocklin.wordpress.com/2023/05/31/djvu-and-its-connection-to-deep-learning/

It's embarassing how good the format was, compared to PDF, and current viewers in browser.
And https://djvu.js.org/ is insanely fast.

DjVu and its connection to Deep Learning

DjVu is a vastly superior file format for books, mathematical papers and just about anything else you can think of to original PDF (current year PDF adopted some of its innovations, but they’…

📢 The Library Carpentry Curriculum Advisory Committee (LC-CAC) is calling for instructors to run pilot workshops for 14 lessons that are currently in Alpha status and ready for community piloting. To move them toward Beta and eventual adoption as official Library Carpentry lessons, they need the Carpentries community to test the lessons in real-world settings. 🙏

⌛ All lessons are designed for 1.5 to 4 hours of instruction.

The lessons cover a range of technical, methodological, and community-building topics, including:

👉 technical workflows and infrastructure
👉 open research methods
👉 scholarly communication and discovery, and
👉 lessons on community building and advocacy strategies.

Find out more about the lessons, and how you can indicate your interest to pilot them: https://www.carpentries.org/blog/2026/02/calling-community-pilots-open-science-lessons/

Calling Community Pilots: 14 New Open Science Lessons for Library Carpentry

The Lessons for Librarians in Open Science Principles and Methods project, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), has reached an exciting milestone. Over the past two years, we’ve worked with 27 expert authors across 14 teams to develop 15 new lesson repositories focused on open science for librarians.
