Hey fellow degooglers,

I’ve been going back and forth on this for a while, but I’ve decided to bring my project, degoogle-your-life.com, to an end.

There are a few reasons behind this, the main one simply being time. Between a full-time job, an active life and a family with five kids, I don’t have the capacity for the level of research, writing and maintenance the site needs.

I underestimated how fast this space moves. Guides, reviews and recommendations become outdated quickly as tools and software evolve. For example, I started writing a review of Proton a few months ago, and each time I got close to finishing, a new product launched. Lumo, Authenticator, Sheets, Meet - and that's just one company!

On top of that, there’s the administrative side. I set this up as a small business with the hope of earning some income, but that brings tax and bookkeeping responsibilities. My tax advisor recently dropped me due to the low revenue, which leaves me managing that side of things myself. Oh joy.

That said, I’m still fully committed to the broader mission. I hope the movement continues to grow, that Big Tech faces meaningful competition and that we see stronger digital sovereignty - especially here in Europe. There’s a lot of potential, and I’m hopeful.

Thank you to everyone who visited the site, shared it, boosted my posts or reached out. Your support meant a lot and made the effort worthwhile.

Just to be clear: this isn’t a call for donations or help. I’m doing well and ready to move on. If you do want to support me in a small way, you can use or share my Proton referral link (https://pr.tn/ref/30VDKTVQ). It gives both of us a €20 discount. Huzzah! 🥳

And with that, there's only one thing left to say:
Happy degoogling everyone!

Enjoyed listening to the discussion between @hankgreen and #KylaScanlon. Lots of good thoughts on the corrupt dynamics between #bigtech and #trump. Definitely worth a listen (yes it is a YouTube link, sorry): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOR4wuiPeEQ

“Your email is encrypted” – but what does that *actually* mean?

I wrote a clear, non-technical guide that explains the basics and highlights what’s often hidden in the fine print.

Hey guys and gals,
I've been happily using Proton for nearly a year now and have a referral link. New users get 20 USD off (and I get 20 USD as well - a win-win deal 😎).

If you have any questions, ask away. Also feel free to share this link if you know someone who would benefit.

The Tech Elites in the Epstein Files

The Department of Justice has released more than 3 million documents and photos related to Jeffrey Epstein. Here’s who shows up from Big Tech the most often—and what the files reveal.

WIRED

"I initially avoided degoogling because I knew I would miss out on the latest and greatest. Google is always adding new, smart features that seem almost magical when you first use them. But there is an unspoken 'catch' with nearly all of these features – they need unfettered access to your data to function. This 'transaction' is rarely made explicit. Instead, features are simply rolled-out while default settings, unreadable privacy policies and FOMO work their magic. But once you see what’s going on, you can’t unsee it."

Just one reason I left Gmail for a privacy-respecting alternative.

Hey all,

I just published an email encryption explainer on my site. I'd appreciate your feedback!

There are a few more articles on email coming soon, but I wanted to run this one past y'all in case it needs some refinement.

Many thanks!

Question for my fellow degooglers out there:

Would you use Facebook, LinkedIn and co. for marketing purposes (in my case about degoogling)? I don't mean paid adverts, but just trying to raise awareness through networking on the platform.

Is that using the "enemy's" technology against them? Or is it more an ideological compromise that undermines the mission?

What do ya'll think?
