A bag scan was needed at the Singapore gate.

My laptop slid through.

The model slid through.

And then came the case containing the asteroid sample.

“What is this?”

I took a deep breath.

“It is… an asteroid sample.”

I waited. My hand inched towards my laptop with hours of presentations on Hayabusa2.

“Huh. OK.”

The attendant turned to her colleague.

“It’s an asteroid,” she said in a tone that implied they’d seen 72 others in the last week alone. Just a chip from outer space. Again.

🤨

The warning signs were there…but like an idiot I carried on anyway. Soaked like a drowned rat I was! #Rain #Thunderstorms #Nottinghamshire

"Bird tracking system provides fantastic opportunities for nature policy," says biologist Allert Bijleveld.
Years have been spent working on a unique technique to track small birds in the western Wadden Sea. Monitoring birds is very important if you want to understand what is changing for life in the #WaddenSea. The bird tracking system WATLAS is available from this year for anyone who wants to use it for bird research and nature policy.

The biologically productive North Sea impacts the global climate through exchange of carbon and nutrients with the #Atlantic #Ocean. A lot of carbon dioxide (CO2) could be taken up through physical, biological and sedimentological processes. But much is still unknown. Dutch scientists investigate how big the role of the #NorthSea really is in the uptake of carbon.

Would be great if you could sign this petition to increase research scholarship rates for PhD students in Australia, so that they’re paid minimum wage.

This is a small step towards properly funding and compensating the people who make massive contributions to Australian research outputs.
