Some of the desktop suites also have a separate lock screen delay configurable in a different location. The screen shake animation can also slow it down undesirably unrelated to security.

@ntnsndr This is a fairly consistent feature in most linux distros. There's a man page on the password authentication system that talks about it's purpose.

TL:DR: don't leak in formation + Slow down brute force attempts.

@[email protected] I used to find things slowing down steam by launching into safe mode with networking.

If that helped, I would use sysinternals tools to find out what program was conflicting with the files. Often it was antivirus software that was glitching and updating it would fix.

One time it was literally a failing harddrive.
