I use 3 different picking styles: thumb only, thumb + index and index + middle finger. When using only the thumb I mute the G string with the index finger of my fretting hand, because the thumb movement is harder to control for me. My personal favorite picking style in this particular case is index + middle, where I can anchor my picking hand thumb on the G string and give the hand some stability and mute the string at the same time. What way do you prefer?
