@chris @krnlg @parismarx No, I was talking about your own car. The car that they already want to charge you a subscription for to be able to use the seat heating. I can’t think of a scenario where they will let you use the self-driving feature for free even when you bought the car.

@chris @krnlg @parismarx Fair enough. But do you really believe it’s going to be cheaper? Maybe in the beginning but eventually the companies offering autonomous vehicles will find a way to charge you at least as much as you would have to pay otherwise, if not more.

And that’s if the tech will ever work which it doesn’t look like right now.

For 1001 days, Putin has threatened to go nuclear. His goal: To spread fear and make us hesitate in our support for Ukraine.

Dozens of experts have said, the reason Putin has not used nuclear weapons is, such a move would be fatal to his regime, as it would completely isolate him. Even China has made it clear to him, nuclear is a real, actual red line for them.

These experts help lower fear. But TV stations like the BBC are not helping, when choosing this thumbnail for today's episode:

“America now has an unelected defense contractor sitting in the White House doing ketamine and twiddling the algorithmic knobs of an influential right-wing echo chamber.”

A perfect description if I ever heard one.

The Verge Editor-In-Chief Nilay Patel breathes fire on Elon Musk and Donald Trump's Big Tech enablers

"All of these men are now hopelessly trapped in a problem their own platforms and algorithms created."

@swelljoe @josephcox My thoughts exactly. A lot of companies are so dependent on AI to work out the way they promised that they can’t be seen showing any negatives about it.
Here's the bottom line on LLM AI systems. If you can't trust that their answers are accurate, they are essentially worthless. It doesn't matter if parts of their answers are correct and parts are incorrect -- the incorrect parts "contaminate" the entire response and render it useless. Actually, even worse than useless, because this becomes a perfect vehicle for spreading misinformation that is combined and given gravitas by accurate information -- a horrific and dangerous toxic brew.

One out of every 200 people in Gaza have been killed by the Israeli army — and the bombing still hasn’t stopped.

Let that sink in for a moment, then remember how Israeli authorities are trying to make Western publics believe they aren’t targeting civilians. This is a massacre.

Might actually write my own static site generator after all 🤔

Why You Should Write Your Own Static Site Generator

I rewrote my personal website using basic libraries and the flexibility is incredible.

Facts are facts: when we rely on billionaires to selectively choose which research questions and world problems deserve support, they will inevitably prioritize narrow self-interest, profit incentives and personal crusades over the greater good.
