I lead the Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present) and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (2011-present) which are the same org and mission but with different financial structure.

Since 1993 I have been collecting & sharing ideas others can use to fight poverty & inequality & help volunteer-based tutor/mentor orgs in Chicago area grow in more places (including the single tutor/mentor program I led from 1993 to 2011).

To all the political candidates texting me daily and asking for money, I make all of my (limited) donations through Charles Gaba's site.

You're wasting your time with the "dear Dan" messages and only making me wish for publicly funded political campaigns.

#WordSlant is a visual word challenge in which a word has been sliced diagonally into smaller pieces. The pieces have been moved around to mix up the word.

Mentally rearrange the pieces to reform the correct word.

I'd love to find lists on BlueSky of people who are looking at this graphic and discussing actions they and others can take to make organized, volunteer-based, tutor, mentor & learning programs available in more high poverty neighborhoods of big cities like Chicago.

Are you finding any?

This is the analytics dashboard created by the Spring 2026 #IVMOOC student team at Indiana University to analyze participation in 1993-2015 Tutor/Mentor Conferences that I hosted in Chicago.

The Trump administration keeps grifting. When will Americans push back?

"President Trump said that his handpicked contractor would charge only $1.8 million to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and paint it blue. The actual cost is now more than seven times that, after the Interior Department nearly doubled the size of the contract late last week, federal records show."

Reflecting Pool Repairs to Cost $13.1 Million. Trump Had Promised $1.8 Million.

The Interior Department added $6.2 million to the no-bid contract for repairs to the Lincoln Memorial pool late last week.
